UUMC Day School 3 and 4 year olds Programs and People
For a small child, play is of tremendous importance. It is real work and real learning. Children need play in order to relate to others and to the world about them. At University Methodist Day School, three year olds are given time for free and imaginative play as well as constructive play. There is a quiet time in which to listen to stories, a conversation time where they learn to express themselves, and a music period where children learn to sing short songs and respond creatively to rhythms.

The four year old program has much the same purpose as the 3’s.
Included in the four year age level is a structured pre-kindergarten readiness program. Sensory experiences, development of a healthy self-concept, language development, music, creative activities, social relationships, and simple math and science concepts are used in the teaching activities. They also learn to recognize and write their ABC’s and numbers. The fours often take field trips for various holidays or ballets.
A typical daily schedule includes a greeting time with supervised free play; together time for calling roll, discussing the day of the week, month and the current weather; playing with puzzles and manipulative table toys; a period for activity centers; snack time; bathroom and hand washing time.
We have designed our entire program to help the child find a comfortable, contributing place in a group situation, to feel his own worth and the worth of others as children of God
