Strong winds and heavy rains caused immediate damage and flash flooding throughout the state, then as the rain continued to fall, rivers overflowed their banks flooding more homes, many of which are still underwater.  The needs of the people affected by these floods are diverse and great and will continue for days and weeks and months to come.  As our hearts break for our neighbors we remember the additional disasters that can be created by donating unneeded items.  University United Methodist Church has responded to the immediate need with a lot of prayer and by filling 113 UMCOR cleaning buckets to be distributed to flood victims that are able to return home.  The buckets include cleaning supplies, insect repellent, trash bags, gloves, and a clothes line — all items UMCOR has determined are needed in the aftermath of a flood.

We are continuing to respond to the needs of flood victims with additional supplies and also with volunteer help.  If you have time there are many ways you can be a part of the recovery effort, contact Larry Mason at masonla@aol.com if you can help.
